Dr. Geagea’s conditions
After 10 years in prison, many rumors have been spread; some were good
and some bad. Some rumors mentioned the imminent release of the Hakim
and other rumors painted a black picture of his current situation. In
recent weeks many rumors were spread about Dr. Geagea health and
condition. The following are points written by Dr. Geagea family
member who visits him occasionally:
1-
Every Tuesday and Thursday Dr. Geagea is visited by his wife (Sethrida
Geagea), his mother (Marie Geagea), his father (Farid Geagea), his
sister (Nauhad Kayrouz) and his nephews (Paul and Peter Kayrouz) at
the defense ministry compound in Yarze . In general, only they and no
one else can see him, except for Bishop Al Baysari who visits him once
a month.
2-
After the last municipal elections that took place in the North, his
family was suddenly allowed to see him for a maximum of 15 minutes on
Tuesdays and Thursdays for a period that lasted about three weeks
during which any political conversation was immediately stopped.
3-
Two weeks ago his family was again able to sit with him about one hour
every Tuesday and Thursday and his lawyers were able to visit him each
Monday and Friday, back to the way it was before the elections.
4-
After visiting the hospital for regular checkups including X-Rays, his
doctors were able to visit him two weeks ago in his prison at the
defense ministry compound in Yarze for additional checkups. Thank God
everything went well.
5-
A week ago and precisely on Tuesday night (10:00p.m), Dr. Geagea went
for the second time to the hospital because he was feeling that his
heart was racing more quickly than normal (this had happened before
after running). All tests regarding his heart came out normal with no
indication of any heart problems.

Dr. Geagea conditions are the same. His weight is about 65 kg; he is
trying to keep it this way (preferable for his conditions
underground).
7-
Dr. Geagea cell is located on the third floor underground. When his
family goes to see him, they are taken down to the 2nd floor
underground and the Hakim is brought up one floor from his jail cell
to see them. The room they see him in is somewhat small but certainly
better than before. Before, the room was smaller and we had glass
dividing Dr. Geagea from us. Now we can sit down next to him and touch
him.
8-The major change from ten years till now is that Dr. Geagea can go
outside to run or walk for one and a half hours each day (until very
recently he was permitted for a maximum of one hour per day.) The
family is also offered coffee or water and are treated with dignity,
much better than before.
9-Dr. Geagea will undergo, throughout this month, several exams and
checkups and may visit the hospital at any time as a follow-up on
earlier checkups. Dr. Geagea is currently in a very good health, which
is quite the opposite of the rumors that have recently appeared in
many newspapers...
In conclusion, every news or story different from what
I have just posted is untrue and just a rumor. This is Samir Geagea's
